Sgt. Peter Lee Newport, 26, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
Sgt. Newport was born in Nampa, Idaho. He was a highly decorated soldier of the United States Army for 8 years, with specialized training in geospatial intelligence. During his time in the service, he was awarded two Army Commendation medals, an Army Achievement Medal, a Meritorious Unit Citation, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, two NATO Medals, a Combat Action Badge, a Driver Badge and a Mechanic Badge. He was deployed twice, first to Afghanistan, and then to Kosovo. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Survivors include his mother, Paula L. Holsinger and his sister, Amanda R. Baris, and his brother in law, Matthew D. Baris.
