Obituary

Dorothy (Dottie) Ann Newton Cameron formerly of Quincy and Whitman, MA passed away surrounded by love at Saint Joseph’s Manor on April 19, 2017 at the age of 70, after a brave battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Dottie is survived by “her girls”, her daughter’s Dorothy Ann Cameron, Tricia Cameron O’Brien and her partner Kerry Joseph Lambert and her beloved, cherished, one and only granddaughter Casey Rose O’Brien all of Whitman. Dottie is also survived by her dear mother Rose Newton of Pittsgrove, New Jersey. Dottie is the former spouse of James Cameron formerly of Quincy now living in Lake Worth, Florida. Dottie is also survived by her two brothers James Newton of Pittsgrove, New Jersey and John Newton on Pennsylvania. She is the sister of the late Rose Ritter of East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. Dottie is also survived by her dear friend Parnel Bailey, who will miss their Saturday morning yard sailing adventures.

Dottie was a graduate of the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia where she became a Registered Nurse in 1968. After graduating from nursing school Dottie settled in New Jersey where she began a family while working as an RN in Philadelphia. Several years later after moving to Quincy Massachusetts, Dottie began working at Long Island Hospital in Boston, as well as Boston Medical Center and Quincy Hospital. Dottie had many certifications and specialized in infectious medicine. Later in her career as an RN, Dottie made the decision to teach new nursing students. This was a time in her career that she always said she loved.

Dottie enjoyed ceramics, playing the organ, singing in the church choir as well as participating in the church’s bell choir. She was very interested in American History and politics, loved to crochet and taught many people how to do so. She also loved to sew and was known to make many Halloween costumes for her beloved Casey Rose. She loved animals and had them around her for her entire life. Later in life, her precious overweight cat Moose was her best buddy. Dottie loved to laugh and believed that if you worked hard and put your family first everything would always be alright. She had a generous soul and an infectious kindness. Her sense of humor and sarcasm will be missed though carried on by “her girls”. We would like to thank the staff of Saint Joseph’s Manor as well as the staff of Old Colony Hospice for taking meticulous care of our mother as well as providing care to us during our lengthy vigil. We would never have been able to spend her last days with her had it not been for your generosity and care. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Funeral Mass to be held on Saturday April 29th at 10:00am at the Chapel at Saint Joseph’s Manor 215 Thatcher Street Brockton, Massachusetts. All are welcomed. In lieu of flowers, please participate in a random act of kindness in Dottie’s memory.
