Thomas F. Murphy, 69

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Thomas F. Murphy, age 69 of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

Born in Brockton, MA on May 14, 1947, he was loving son of the late James and Mildred (Strain) Murphy.

Tom grew up in the Brookville section of Holbrook and was educated in Holbrook schools. He was a graduate of Holbrook High School where he excelled in basketball and had also attended Stonehill College.

He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the DAV. While living in Holbrook, he attended St. Joseph’s Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

A resident of Mansfield for the past 44 years, Tom was a retired valve assembler/shipper having worked for over twenty-five years at Masoneilan in Norwood.

Tom adored his family and was happiest when surrounded by his granddaughters. He loved all types of sports, especially golf and Red Sox baseball. He also played men’s league softball and was a member of several golf and bowling leagues.

He is survived by his devoted daughter Jennifer L. Arabie and her companion Sergio Monteiro of Taunton. He was the cherished grandfather of Katrina Arabie, Denise Arabie and Nicole Arabie. He was the dear brother of Ann Weiner of Florida and Tim Murphy of North Carolina. He is also survived by his former wife Regina M. Murphy of Carver and his former son-in-law of Michael Arabie of Milford.

His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, April 25th at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Visitation will take place prior to the services on Tuesday morning beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Tom’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to a local DAV Chapter of ones choice.
