Elizabeth S. "Betty" (Tyminski) Flanagan RN, a Registered Nurse for over 55 years, entered into eternal life on Monday, April 17, 2017 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 75 years old.
Betty was born in Syracuse, New York on October 25, 1941, a daughter of the late Anthony Tyminski and Antoinette (Helmund). She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Mount Trinity Academy in Watertown. Betty attended nursing school at the Whidden Hospital in Everett where she received her Registered Nursing degree. She furthered her education and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Salem State College. Betty has been a Registered Nurse for the last 55 years where she worked for Dr. Richard Morelli in Melrose for 17 years, Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Labor and Delivery for 10 years and for the last 15 years at Massachusetts General Hospital in Surgical Day Care. Betty was very devoted to her nursing profession and took great pride with helping many expecting mothers throughout her career. Betty was a member of Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose and enjoyed playing golf in her spare time. She was an avid Boston Sports fan who enjoyed watching the Bruins, Patriots, Red Sox and Boston University Terriers hockey games. She enjoyed traveling to Disney, California, Cape Cod, Las Vegas and Foxwoods. Betty enjoyed being around her friends and she was very passionate about her grandchildren and took great pride watching each one of them at their sporting events.
Betty is the wife of the late Daniel J. Flanagan Jr. She is the devoted mother of Karen Kempker and her husband Dave of Elmhurst, Illinois, Nancy Flanagan and her husband Dave Marsters of Andover, Amy Flanagan of East Falmouth and the late Brian S. Flanagan. She is the loving Gram to Elizabeth, Katherine and Alexandra Kempker, Nolan and Alison Marsters. She is the beloved sister of Robert Tyminski and his wife Marilyn "Sis" of Coconut Creek, Florida. She is the beloved sister-in-law of the late Billy and Chickie McGunigle. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St. Melrose on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Saturday April 22, at 9 A.M. followed by a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at Church of The Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
