…Lowell Police Sergeant Detective; 68
PEPPERELL - Francis M. “Frank” Waterman, age 68, a respected and beloved retired member of the Lowell Police Narcotics Division, died peacefully Sunday evening, April 9, at Lowell general Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer, in the loving care of his family. He was the devoted husband of Dorothy E. (Sicard) Waterman, with whom he had celebrated forty-seven loving years of marriage this past September 6th.
He was born in Somerville, in July 1948, a son of Mary D. (Kinsley) Waterman of Tewksbury, and the late Edward Waterman. He was raised in Tewksbury and graduated Tewksbury Memorial High School with the Class of 1966. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served in aircraft support stateside during the Vietnam War. He maintained membership in the Billerica Disabled American Veteran’s Chapter 47. He became a Lowell Police Officer on December 22, 1974 and worked his way up in rank to retire as a Detective Sergeant in the Anti-Drug Narcotics division of the Lowell Police. During his career, he had also worked on state and federal level anti-drug task forces. About his job, he would freely tell people he loved his job, and looked forward to getting to work every day during his thirty-two years of law enforcement. Upon retirement, he was showered with local, state and federal recognition for his duty to the department. He was a thirty-two year member of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers.
In addition to his role as a loving father and devoted husband, he loved motorcycle touring on his Harley-Davidson, fishing at the lake, golf with his family and friends, and summers at Crescent Campground in Canaan, NH.
Besides his wife and mother, he leaves four children, Francis M. Waterman Jr. of Fitchburg, Brian Waterman, Kelly A. Waterman and Daniel E. Waterman all of Pepperell; his brother William Waterman and his wife Maureen of Tewksbury; sister, Lee Waterman of Tewksbury; his beloved puppy, “Harley;” many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and was predeceased by his special and beloved brother, Teddy Waterman.
Visiting hours Thursday, April 13 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His funeral will begin Friday, April 14, at 10:00 from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Service on Friday, at 11:30 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will be at a later date at the National Cemetery at Cape Cod.
