Ray L. Hurd, 90, of Westport, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Brookdale of Dartmouth. He was the husband of the late Clarisse J. (Phaneuf) Hurd.
Mr. Hurd was born in Rumford, RI, son of the late Harry N. and Delia V. (Catudal) Hurd and had resided in New Bedford before moving to Westport in 1978. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a mechanical engineering graduate from Brown University, Class of 1951. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he worked for many years as division manager for Cornell Dubilier of New Bedford. He was an avid bowler and golfer and had wintered in Florida for over 25 years. He was a member of the Wamsutta Club, New Bedford and a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport.
Survivors include his 2 daughters: Patricia L. Kehoe of N. Dartmouth and Joanne G. Thorpe of Portland, Oregon; 3 sons: Richard C. Hurd of Windsor, CT, Ronald J. Hurd of E. Taunton and James F. Hurd of N. Dartmouth; his loving companion: Anne Perreira; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Carl Hurd, Lester R. Hurd and H. Everett Hurd.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5-8 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
