Ann (Almeida) Simas, age 84 of Taunton, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2017 at Plymouth Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
She was the beloved wife of the late Dennis F. Simas.
Ann was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Georgianna (DeCouta) Almeida.
She was a Taunton High School graduate, class of 1950, and continued on to receive her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from Bristol Community College. She was also a member of the local chapter of Professional Business Woman’s Association. Before retirement, Mrs. Simas was employed at Morton Hospital in the Admitting Department, retiring in 1998. Prior to that, she was a Special Education Teacher’s Aide in the Taunton School system for many years. Ann and her late husband Dennis loved to dance and enjoyed many trips abroad. She was a fierce advocate for many causes. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. Simas is survived by her daughters, Sharon S. Measer and her husband Stephen of Westford, MA, Susan M. Holmes and her husband Brian of Taunton, and Sandra J. Hewett and her husband Jim of Syracuse, NY. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Kristen (Greco) Mendelson and her husband Jordan, Jessica Greco, Rachael and Danny Measer, and Oliver Hewett. She also leaves a brother, James Almeida, of Taunton and two nephews, Michael and Paul Almeida. She was the twin sister of the late Anthony Almeida.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) in Taunton from 4:00pm to 7:00pm with a funeral home service to begin at 6:30 pm.
Burial will be held privately.
