Helen (Hejduk) Swanson, 96, of Halifax passed away on Saturday April 8th at the New England Sinai Hospital, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Carl U. Swanson.
She was born and raised in Brockton, daughter of the late Frank and Adela(Gunther) Hejduk and a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1938.
Helen married and lived in Stoughton, before moving to Halifax in 1972. While in Stoughton she was an active member of the First Methodist Church.
While in Halifax she discovered one of her great loves, was being an educator to the children in the Halifax Elementary School, where she retired at the age of 78.
Helen enjoyed gardening, music, boating and was an avid Patriots fan. Her greatest joy in life was being a loving mother and grandmother.
Helen is survived by her loving children, Peter Swanson and his wife Cindy of VA., Janet Pike and her husband Ray of Plymouth and Cheryl Berrio and her husband Ed of Halifax, also; several grand, great and great-great children. She was also the mother of the late David Swanson and sister of the late Ernest, Frank and Rose Hedjuk.
Her memorial service will be held on Thursday April 13th at 1:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Visitation will be prior to her service from 11:00AM-1:00PM.
