Steven Lee Auerbach, Ret US Army Major, aged 70, of Franklin, passed away on Friday April 7, 2017 in the Leonard Morse Medical Center in Natick after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Margaret “Peggy” (Goode) Auerbach.
Born on March 13, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Seymour and Esther (Schopin). Steven graduated from Cornell University with a BS in Food Science. After graduation he began his career in the military by entering the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School in 1968. Mr. Auerbach spent 20 years in the Army retiring at the rank of Major. His last assignment was at the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering Center where he met his wife. During his career in the Army he served as a paratrooper and jump master in the 82nd Airborne Division, and served overseas in Vietnam and Germany. Steven was awarded numerous medals, letters of commendation, ribbons, badges (including the Sr. parachutist badge), citations and other recognitions including the Bronze Star, Army Commendation, and the Meritorious Service Medal. During his service in the Army he also continued his education and received a Master’s Degree in Management at Webster University.
After his distinguish career in the Army, Steven started his own video production company called Video Archives Unlimited in Franklin.
In his spare time, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and friends was a member of the National Professional Videographers Association (NPVA), AUSA, and MOAA. Even though he was a New Yorker he was a loyal Patriots fan.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Adam, Kelly, Laura and Kaitlyn, his sister Helene Leitner and her husband Bruce.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visiting hour on Monday, April 10th at 11:00AM in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main Street, Franklin followed by a service at 12 Noon. Burial will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:00PM with full military honors.
Family will also receive visitors on Tuesday, April 11 from 5-8pm at his late residence.
