Obituary

Alden W. Counsell, 94 of Dartmouth died April 7, 2017 at Autumn Glen Assisted Living.
He was the husband of the late Theresa M. (Travis) Counsell.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and Esther A. (Cryer) Counsell, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Counsell was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
He was formerly employed as a professor at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Mr. Counsell was a graduate of Northeastern University where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He enjoyed skiing up until the age of 85, bowling and golfing. He was an avid Boston sports fan and loved watching the Patriots with family and friends.
Mr. Counsell served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his 2 sons, John A. Counsell and his wife Pat of East Wareham and Joseph M. Counsell of Brockton; a daughter, Ann C. Peardon and her husband John of Buzzards Bay; a sister-in-law, Helen Pullman of New Hampshire; a cousin, Joyce Regis; 2 step-grandchildren; 4 great-step-grandsons; 2 nieces and a great-niece.
He was the father of the late David Counsell.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, April 17th from 4-7 PM.
