Dartmouth — Leonela Silveira Avila, age 88, passed away at Brandon Woodsof Dartmouth on Wednesday April 5, 2017. She was the wife of the late Joao Pereira Avila and the daughter of the late Leonel Lourenco Avila and Rosa Joaquina da Silveira Avila.
Leonela was born in Pico, Azores, immigrated to this country in 1963 and worked for Colonial Textile in New Bedford as a stitcher. She enjoyed crocheting and reading the Bible.
She is survived by her son, Joel Silveira Avila and his wife, Susan, of Dartmouth; grandchildren: Jason Avila and wife, Rebecca, of East Freetown; Jennifer Avila and Melisa Avila of North Carolina; great grandchildren: Ben Avila and Leo Avila; siblings: Helena Furtado, Maria Mendonca and Manuel Avila and wife, Carmina, all of the Azores; Capitolina Pacheco and husband, Leonel of Dartmouth; Cecilia Ferreira of New Bedford, Edna Alves and husband, Antonio, of New Bedford and Lionel Avila and wife, Sylvia of Minnesota; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place in the funeral home on Saturday April 15, 2017 from 9:00 - 11:00 A.M.
Leonela's family would like to thank the staff of Brandon Woods of Dartmouth and New England Hospice for their exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to New England Hospice.
