Obituary


Oliver P. Gonsalves, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully in his home, April 4, 2017. He was 87 years of age. "Ollie", as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was the beloved husband of the late Helen M. (McLaughlin) Gonsalves. Born and raised in Woburn he was one of twelve children of the late John and Matilda (D'Abreau).

Ollie, a well known personality here in Woburn, attended Woburn Schools and from a young age possessed a strong work ethic helping his family on the farm. He was a proud Veteran and honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. When he returned home from the service Ollie went right back to work to support his growing family. He worked for several years with the Stoneham Shoe Shop, J.O. Whitten Company and retired in 1995 from Brodie Forklift where he was employed for many years. Ollie loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening and playing softball in for many years. He was also an avid bowler was recently still active in several leagues.

Ollie's greatest joy was his large and loving family. Nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by those he loved. He especially cherished his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he was so proud of. He will be greatly missed by his family and many dear friends.

Ollie was the devoted father of Gary Gonsalves and his wife Marianne of Cape Coral, FL, Gail Patterson and her husband William of Woburn, David Gonsalves and his wife Diane of Plymouth, Mark Gonsalves and Karen Gonsalves both of Woburn, Glenn Gonsalves of Wakefield, the late Paul Gonsalves and his surviving wife Cheryl of Woburn, the late William and Wayne Gonsalves. He was the loving grandfather of William Gonsalves, Joanne Reynolds, Robert Gonsalves, Justin, Shane and Tyler Patterson, Kasey and Kylee Gonsalves. Loving great grandfather of Alina Patterson, Madison and Chloe Reynolds. Cherished brother of Peggy Sullivan of Woburn, the late Mary Fernandes, Augie Manjo, Matilda "Tillie" Danca, Anna Gillooly, Agnes Pereira, John, Charles, Henry, Fred and Walter Gonsalves.

In keeping with Ollie's wishes, funeral services will be private. Contributions may be made in Ollie's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
