Obituary


Leo M. Rousseau, 79 of Acushnet died April 2, 2017 at home after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Joyce V. (Lapolla) Rousseau.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late Arsene S. "Mike" and Gertrude (Daley) Rousseau, he lived in Acushnet most of his life.
Mr. Rousseau was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church.
He was employed by Titleist for over 40 years until his retirement and was also employed at Lincoln Amusement Park for 30 years.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Rousseau was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School and served on the Board of Directors for the Greater New Bedford Voc-tech Alumni.
He was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.
Mr. Rousseau loved the town of Acushnet and proudly served the town on the Board of Selectmen from 1983 to 1993. He also served on the Conservation Board, the Park Commission, the Steering Committee, the By Law Review Committee and the Trust Fund Committee.
Leo loved playing golf, spending time with family and friends, breakfast at Rochelle's and going to the movies with his brother. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include a son, Gary L. Rousseau and his wife Frances M. of West Wareham; 2 daughters, Jacquelyn A. Bassett of Rochester and Sheri L. Baptista and her husband Manuel of Berkley; 2 brothers, Paul Rousseau of New Bedford and Edward Rousseau of Dartmouth; 5 grandchildren, Felicia Troy, Bethanie Bassett, Melissa Bassett, Katherine Baptista and Kristina Baptista; 4 great-grandchildren, Jaxson Troy, Kamden Ledin, Kamilah Baptista and Kenidee Zaccagnini; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Donald Rousseau.
His Visiting hours will be on Thursday, April 6th from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Funeral will be held on Friday, April 7th at 8:45 AM from the funeral home followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
