Irene M. (Johnson) Babineau, 81, of New Bedford passed away Saturday April 1, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Albert Babineau.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John and Alice (Despres) Johnson, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Babineau was formerly employed as a stitcher at Shepard Clothing for many years until her retirement.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Bingo and attending activities at the New Bedford Senior Center.
She is survived by two daughters, Audrey Almond and her husband Scott, and Valerie Leavitt and her husband Brian, all of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Scott Almond and his wife Jennifer, Aaron Almond and his fiancée, Andrea Evora, Joshua Quintin, Jonathan Leavitt, and Jolie Leavitt; her soon-to-be-born great-grandson, Chace Almond; and nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Albert Johnson, Wilfred Johnson, Ida Boulay Gagnier, Doris Lavoie, Olivine Belisle, and Theresa LeBlanc.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday morning from 9-11 AM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
