Ann M. Mello, 64, of Mattapoisett, formerly of Paxton and Worcester, died gracefully on September 10, 2005 at her home after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by her family.
Raised in Manchester, CT she was the youngest daughter of the late Robert E and Natalie (Glynn) McIntosh. She and her husband Charles W. Mello recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.
Her career path was varied and interesting. She worked as the administrator to the Select board in the town of Paxton, MA, managed Homestaff, Inc., in Holden, MA, the Racquet Club of Paxton, the gift shop at City Hospital in Worcester. Her last professional position was as a social worker for Elder Home Care Services of Worcester.
Mrs. Mello earned her Bachelor of Arts from Clark University in Worcester MA. She also attended Lasell Junior College. Her volunteer activities, while living in the Worcester area, included the Tech Alumni Wives (Worcester Polytechnic Institute), the Junior League of Worcester, and the League of Women Voters. In Mattapoisett she was a committee member for the Historical Society Art Show and Sale. Her interests included golf, tennis, bridge and baking.
Mrs. Mello was an incredibly creative person. In addition to her rug braiding she was an expert quilter, having won many awards in Worcester area quilt shows. She taught the art of quilting in her home in Paxton. She was instrumental in the creation of the Paxton Quilters Club – whose members continue to meet. She enjoyed gardening and her home featured her talents in this arena.
Most recently Ann ran her own art gallery and studio in Mattapoisett. She was an accomplished artist, and believed in sharing her talent and gift by teaching people of all ages and abilities how to express their inner artist. In addition to instructing at her studio, she also taught through the Southcoast Learning Center. Mrs. Mello’s art was often featured in various shows in and around Mattapoisett and Marion. She was very generous with her works, donated many pieces to charitable organizations for fund raising.
She is also survived by her husband; her children, Natalie A. Mello and her husband David DiBiasio of Paxton, MA; C. William Mello, Jr and his wife Pamela Mello of Chesapeake,VA; Peter E. Mello of Wilmington, VT; and Elizabeth Mello Silva and her husband Dilson Silva of Curitiba, Brazil. Mrs. Mello has ten grandchildren who will miss her greatly. She is also survived by her sister Mary and brother-in-law Allan Schubert of Mattapoisett and sister Peg McIntosh of Newburyport, MA.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Monday, September 12th at 10 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Church at 11 AM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Sunday, September 11th from 4-8 PM.
Interment private.
