Obituary

BUXTON- Mary C. Bradbury, 87, of Buxton, Maine, died at Brentwood Center in Yarmouth, on Friday, March 31, 2017, after a long illness.
She was born in Augusta, Maine, on March 17, 1930, the daughter of Chester Roberts and Zepha Gowell Roberts.
Mary grew up in Augusta and attended Augusta schools, graduating from Cony High School in 1947. After high school, she worked for the local phone company as an operator. She married Wilson Bradbury on April 25, 1952, and they made their home in Augusta where they raised two sons. When the boys started school, she worked for a friend in her dog grooming business, after becoming the owner of five toy poodles! Mary loved to cook, and she put her skills to use for her last employment as a food service worker in the Augusta elementary schools.
In 1984, Mary and Wilson moved to Buxton, to be closer to their granddaughter. After raising two sons, she was overjoyed to have a a girl to nurture and loved being Grammy.
While living in Buxton, Mary took great joy in her beautiful flower gardens and tending her flock of laying hens. She loved animals and always had cats and dogs for pets. Mary was a talented artist and had many handcrafts that she loved creating, notably hooked rugs and quilts, as well as knitting, ceramics, counted cross-stitch, and penny rugs. Her family is blessed to have many of her pieces in their homes and to pass on to the next generations.
Mary was a member of the Bar Mills Community Church where she was very active before her illness. She especially loved being part of the women’s group there, crafting and baking for their annual Christmas fair.
Mary is survived by her sons, Chester, and his wife Susan of Buxton, and Richard, of Weeks Mills; also granddaughter Sarah Ward, and her husband Andrew, of Buxton; and great-granddaughters, Alexis and Hannah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Zepha, and her loving husband, Wilson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday April 15, from 1 -2 PM at the Chad E Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. A celebration of her life will immediately follow at the funeral home at 2 PM. Private burial of her cremains will be at a later date.
