Sally Hewes Hill died March 30, 2017. She was born in Groton, Connecticut on October 9, 1929, the daughter of Frank W. Hewes, Jr. and Aurilla (Chapman) Hewes. Sally grew up in Groton, Connecticut and attended local schools and the University of Vermont.
She enjoyed supporting and volunteering in her children’s schools, for Child and Family Services (CFA of SECT), her local churches, the Mystic Garden Club and many other local organizations. She took great joy in cooking, entertaining and hosting family and friends. She loved a good bridge game, a good book, and her gardens. She enjoyed many sunny days at Shenecossett Beach Club, Ram Island Yacht Club and Masons Island Yacht Club. She loved living on the water in Mystic and Florida.
She is survived by her husband, William P. T. Hill, Jr. (Pete), her three daughters Suzanne H. Canning (Bill), Sarah Hill Canning (Peter), and Sherryl P. T. Hill. She is also survived by her grandchildren William (Tracy), Peter, Katherine, Martha, and four great grandchildren each of whom brought her great delight. Sally was predeceased by her brothers F. William Hewes III and Warren G. Hewes. Our family would like to thank Maria Tavares for her years of loving friendship and support, Lydia Mensah for her wonderful, gentle care, and the many kind people who made her more comfortable.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11am at Calvary Church Episcopal at 27 Church Street, Stonington, CT.
