Johnsie “Jonnie” McDaniel Goodson


Evans, Georgia – A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Johnsie “Jonnie” McDaniel Goodson, 86, of 4000 Hammonds Ferry, Evans, Georgia, who entered into rest peacefully at home, Thursday, March 30, 2017, will be conducted on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00 am at Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans Georgia, with Reverend Greg Porterfield officiating.

Mrs. Goodson was born in Salisbury, NC and graduated from Boyden High School in 1948. She is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Daniel Warren Goodson, Sr. Dan and Jonnie were married in 1950 and during their 38 years of marriage, they raised five children and lived in North Carolina, Virginia, Maine, New Jersey and Florida before settling in Augusta, Georgia in 1978.

Mrs. Goodson was an avid golfer. She won the West Lake Women’s Golf Championship in 1980, served as President of the West Lake Ladies Golf Association in 1982, and was a member of the CSRA Women’s Golf Association. Mrs. Goodson was also a Charter Member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans, Ga. She loved the outdoors, gardening, SEC Football, and especially her Florida Gators.

She is survived by her children Penny Goodson Sapp, Daniel Warren Goodson, Jr. (Leann), Joe Reid Goodson (Louise), Lori Goodson Flynn (Joe) and Jan Goodson Wiggins (Ray); 15 grandchildren Todd Sapp (Elizabeth), Shannon Sapp Sudduth (Phillip), Jonathan Sapp (Stephanie), Jordan Sapp, Benjamin Sapp, Natalie Goodson Blackketter (Scott), Mark Goodson (Kelly), Suzanne Goodson, Kristine Goodson Parker (Tom), Jennifer Goodson Davidson (Brett), Colleen Flynn Rodeffer (Tucker), Sean Flynn, Maggie Flynn, Daniel Wiggins and Morgan Wiggins; as well as 18 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Julia Goodson and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the wonderful caregivers who truly loved “Miss Jonnie” and touched her life so profoundly, as well as the amazing staff of the Jud C. Hickey Center for Alzheimer’s Care, Trinity Hospice, and Dr. Stephen Schmidt and SouthEast Hospice.

The family will receive friends just prior to the service, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Jud C. Hickey Center for Alzheimer’s Care (1901 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904).
