WHEARTY Thomas John Jr., 83, of Needham (formerly of Long Island, NY) passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2017. Beloved husband of Anne (O’Kane) Whearty for 56 years; loving father of Tom Whearty and his wife Leah of Walpole, Liz Hildebrand and her husband Jim of Fairfax, VA, Maggie Canha and her husband Jeff of Woburn, Annie O'Kane and her husband Jeffrey Steiger of Bradenton, FL.
Tom is also survived by his brothers, Robert Whearty and his wife Monica of Berlin, MD and Richard Whearty and his late wife Marie of Poughkeepsie, NY. He was the proud grandfather of Tom, Will, Alex, Becky and Leah-Marie Whearty, Evelyn, James, Catherine, Claire, Joseph and Michael Hildebrand, Lisa, Noelle and Adam Canha.
Graduate of the College of the Holy Cross ‘54. Senior Systems Engineer at IBM for 29 years. Faithful parishioner at Saint Joseph Church for 50 years. Tom was an integral member of the volunteer force at Glover Memorial Hospital for over a decade.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave, NEEDHAM on Monday, April 3rd at 9am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Needham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Sunday April 2nd from 4-8pm. Interment will follow at St Mary’s Cemetery, Central Ave, Needham.
