Obituary

James F. McDermott, 71, died at the Braintree Manor Nursing Home in Braintree on Thursday, September 8 after a period of failing health. He was the son of the late John J. and Lucy F. (Mercer) McDermott. Born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, he was a graduate of Boston Schools. Mr. McDermott was a resident of Braintree for 7 years after living in Weymouth for 10 years. He was a Korean War Veteran with the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. McDermott was a truck driver with various companies in the area for over 30 years before retiring 10 years ago.

Mr. McDermott is survived by his siblings, Jean Robinson of MN, Barbara Chase of Weymouth, Robert M. “Mike” McDermott of Sharon. He was preceded in death by his sister, Constance Guthrie and his brothers, J. Bradley McDermott and Garrett McDermott. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his 3 children.

Funeral Prayers will be held from Knollwood Memorial Park, High St., Canton on Monday at 10 AM. Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Sunday from 2-4 PM. Donations in Jim’s name may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494. Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park.
