Emma C. Hanson, 100

Emma (Chase) Hanson, age 100, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Wingate at Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late George H. “Bud” Hanson who died in 1997.
Born in Mansfield, MA on November 2, 1916, she was a loving daughter of the late Willis and Rose (Beaulac) Chase.
Emma was a 1933 graduate of Mansfield High School and graduated from Boston University with a secretarial degree.
Prior to retiring in 1978, Mrs. Hanson worked as an office manager for twenty-one years at the former New England Security Insurance Agency in Mansfield. She previously served as the secretary for the Mansfield Town Manager and as an office manager at National Gypsum.
Emma was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mansfield since 1927, where she served as a former Sunday School Teacher and in the 1940’s as a church organist.
Throughout her life, Emma was very active in Mansfield community affairs. She was a former member of the Mansfield Citizens Scholarship Foundation, the Westside Benevolent Circle, the New Century Club, the Mansfield Optimist Club and the Friends of the Mansfield Library. She also volunteered for twelve years at the Mansfield Public Library, for twenty years at the Red Cross Blood Bank and was a former Mansfield Girl Scout Leader.
She is survived by her devoted daughters Joan C. Tennant of Parkersburg, West Virginia and Cynthia J. Hanson of Mansfield. She was the dear sister of the late Ralph Chase, Janet Kilburn, Doris Ahern and Ruth McDonald, and is also survived by her cherished three granddaughters, one grandson, one great grandson, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend her memorial service at the Union Church of South Foxboro, 384 South St., Foxboro on Thursday, April 20th at 10:00 A.M.. Burial will take place privately at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours have been omitted and those wishing, may remember Emma with a donation in her memory made to the Mansfield Food Pantry, 15 West St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
