Obituary

In Boston, Michael A. (Mike) McCarthy passed away suddenly on March 27, 2017, after a short illness. Born June 23, 1951 in Norfolk, Virginia, he was the son of late Edward and Dorothy (Greenhalgh) McCarthy. Prior to his passing, Mike lived in Revere, Massachusetts, but was raised in his beloved and favorite town of Dighton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Dighton-Rehoboth H.S. and enlisted in the USMC, where he served his nation and was honorably discharged. For many years, he was employed as a police dispatcher and EMT in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He very much enjoyed his sailboat the “ERIN” and being on the ocean. He enjoyed photography, especially taking pictures of sunrises and sunsets, many of which were used as background scenes for newsroom broadcast with weather forecasts. Anyone who knew him knows that he had a tremendous sense of humor. No subject or person was off limits. His internet videos and clips about current and local news will be remembered by everyone. A special thanks and appreciation goes out to all of his loyal followers on the social media site Facebook. He is survived by his brothers, Edward F. McCarthy of Advance, NC, Kevin McCarthy of East Taunton, MA and Patrick McCarthy of New Hampshire. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Melissa McCarthy and her son Calvin of Taunton, Brian McCarthy of Taunton, Edward J. McCarthy and his sons, Sean, Patrick and Conner of North Carolina, Scott McCarthy and his daughters Courtlyn and Caden of North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, we ask for you to please make a donation be made in Michael’s memory to American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road, Waltham, MA, and 02451.
