George “Buddy” Fussell, 69, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.
Mr. Fussell was born February 10, 1948, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late James C. & Frances Sumner Fussell. He lived in the community most of his life and graduated from Irwin County High School. Mr. Fussell served his country with distinction in the United States Air Force, and was a two-tour Vietnam veteran. He was a nuclear project manager with the U. S. Department of Energy and rose to become Vice President of Operations for Nuclear Filter Technology, Inc. He was a horseman, but his first loves was people and building. Mr. Fussell was a very generous man and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lyons.
He is survived by a son, Dr. Corey Fussell and future daughter-in-law Dr. Meagan McDonnell of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; siblings and their spouses: Carolyn F. Daniel, Harris & Sandra Fussell, Wayne & Jan Fussell, Billy Fussell, Martha F. “Cookie” & Johnny Marsh, Faye F. & Richard Gibbs, and Sarah Fussell, all of Fitzgerald, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Curtis Fussell.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Isaac Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Tuesday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
