Loving husband, father, and grandfather
TEWKSBURY: John E. Bowen, age 71, a resident of Tewksbury for 30 years, formerly of Medford, and Malden, passed away with his family by his side, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill on Thursday, March 23, 2017.
He was the beloved husband of Valerie A. (Smith) Bowen, with whom he celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on May 21, 2016.
Born in Cambridge on February 17, 1946, he was the son of the late John R. Bowen and the late Agnes (Carey) Bowen.
John was raised in Medford, and attended Medford Vocational High School.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a quality control inspector by several medical supply companies including the C.R. Bard Company and Koch Industries.
John enjoyed meticulously caring for the landscape of his yard, drinking a cup of coffee, and traveling to tropical islands. According to his family, his favorite place on earth were the islands of Hawaii.
John will be lovingly remembered for his infectious sense of humor and his ability to impersonate the voices of numerous film stars.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Shane W. Bowen of Farmington, NH and Tammy A. Maxwell and her husband Jim of Brookline, NH; three grandchildren; Becca, Emma, and Ellie Maxwell; one sister, Christine Stone and her husband Joseph of Medford; brother-in-law, James Smith and sister-in-law, Donna Smith of North Reading. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Monday, March 27 from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will begin on Tuesday, March 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury.
