John F Hurley Jr, 92, of Braintree, formerly a long time resident of Milton, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2017 after a brief illness. Born and raised in the Oak Square neighborhood of Brighton, he was a graduate of Boston Latin High School, Suffolk University and Wentworth Institute of Technology. He entered the service at age 17 and was a Radioman with the 106th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army where he fought in The Battle of the Bulge during World War II. Mr. Hurley worked at Grant Gear Works in South Boston and Norwood for more than 45 years where he was the Vice President and Co- Owner along with his late brother Robert Hurley. He was also a past President of the Saint Elizabeth’s Parish Council and a volunteer instructor at the Long Island Rehabilitation Facility. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Connors) and loving father of John D. and his wife Sue Ann of Kingston, MaryBeth Barr and her husband Dave of Newburyport, and Christopher J. and his wife Jennifer of Austin, TX. He is also survived by his four cherished grandsons; Michael, Danny, Christopher, and Jackie. He is predeceased by his sister Barbara Hyland, his brother Robert and his granddaughter Colleen Wells. A private memorial Mass was said in his name at St. Elizabeth Church in Milton.
