Philip G. Giunta, a Medford resident for more than fifty years passed away peacefully March 22, 2017, at the Massachusetts General Hospital following a period of declining health. Philip was the beloved husband of Theresa (Mirabelli) Giunta and together they shared nearly 58 years of marriage. Born in East Boston he was one of three children of the late Filippo and Ida (Polito) Giunta.
Philip was a proud United States Air Force Veteran and honorably served from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. A talented mechanic by trade, Philip retired following 29 years of dedicated service to the City of Medford as a Supervisor of Equipment with the Highway Department. In his leisure time he enjoyed cooking and especially enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. However his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He cherished time with his family and especially cherished his grandchildren whom he adored and was most proud of. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his late parents, Philip is sadly predeceased by his son, the late Ronald "Roni" Giunta and his daughter-in-law, the late Laura M. Giunta.
He is survived by his devoted sons, Philip Giunta and his fiancée Linda Voto of North Reading, David Giunta and his wife Wendy of Lynnfield, Larry Giunta and his wife Janie of North Reading. He was the loving Pa to Ronald "RJ", Leah, Nicholas, Alexis, David Jr., George, Samuel and Molly. Brother of Marco Giunta and his wife Annette of Peabody, and the late Jenny Nardone.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Saturday, March 25th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home will be held on Friday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
