CHICOPEE – Joanne A. (Lavallee) Dunigan, 58, of the Ferry Lane section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on December 4, 1958, a beloved daughter of the Beatrice I. (Beaulieu) Lavallee of Granby and the late Norman E. Lavallee who was Called Home on June 12, 1989. She was raised in Granby and graduated from Granby High School in 1976. She furthered her education and studied Early Childhood Behavior at Holyoke Community College. She had briefly lived in Westfield before moving to Chicopee in 1982 where she resided for the remainder of her life. She was employed by the Town of South Hadley Public Schools as a Special Education Autistic Paraprofessional. She had worked at South Hadley Middle School for many years before moving to South Hadley High School for the past four years. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Joanne enjoyed cross-country running and was an avid walker. She was often seen around town by her many friends during her daily ten-mile walks. A wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends and most especially her grandchildren. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Bruce C. Dunigan. They were married on November 24, 1979 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby and were blessed with over 37 years of happiness together. She also leaves her two loving children, Kelly M. Dunigan of Chicopee and Eric D. Dunigan and his wife, Shannon, of Charleton, MA; her three cherished grandchildren, Nathan, Kaitlin and Michael Dunigan; her two dear brothers, Richard Lavallee and his wife, Georgia, of Granby and Robert Lavallee and his wife, Donna, of Mundelein, IL; her dear sister, Mary Jane Miller and her husband, David, of Granby; her dear brother-in-law, Dennis Dunigan and his wife, Rosemary, of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Dunigan and Lavallee families. In addition to her beloved father, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Dennis Lavallee who was Called Home on August 20, 1976. Her funeral will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
