Richard A. Helger, 70, of Tiverton, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the son of the late Henry R. and Gladys E. (Sherman) Helger, Sr.
Mr. Helger was born in Fall River and had been a lifelong resident of Tiverton. He served his country in the National Guard during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated a local service station in Tiverton but his passion was working as a commercial shell fisherman. He enjoyed spending time on the water, especially his trips to Block Island. In his later years, Mr. Helger enjoyed working in his garage restoring just about anything.
Survivors include his daughter: Heidi M. Helger of Tiverton; 2 brothers: Henry R. “Ray” Helger, Jr. of Little Compton and Donald M. Helger of Tiverton; his sister: Barbara A. Helger of Tiverton; 2 granddaughters: Haley L. and Chelsey A. Helger; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Robert G. Helger, Sr.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
Visitation will be Saturday, at the funeral home from 8:30-10 A.M., prior to the service.
Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Tiverton.
