Gilford- Daniel “Dan” S. Wheeler, 66, of Gilford died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Lakes Region General Hospital.
Dan was born April 5, 1950 in Plymouth, New Hampshire, the son of Miriam (Gilpatrick) Wheeler. He attended the University of New Hampshire, graduating with a bachelor’s degree. Dan was an accomplished glass artisan owning Native Sun Studio. He was an avid skier and coached for over 20 years with the Gunstock Ski Club. He also coached Gilford Youth sports for many years. Dan enjoyed hiking with his 3 dogs, snorkeling, scuba diving, listening to music, paddle boarding, skiing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Dan is survived by his wife, of 38 years, Irene (Dilkes) Wheeler, two daughters, Sarah Ham and Erin Wheeler; two grandchildren, Emma Ham and JJ Ham; two brothers, Tom and David; two sisters, Mimi and Peggy, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Dan is predeceased by a brother and a sister.
There will be no calling hours.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday April, 1, 2017 at 11:00AM, at the Gilford Community Church 19 Potter Hill Road Gilford, NH. A Reception will be held at the church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Gunstock Ski Club, c/o Dan Wheeler, P.O Box 222 Laconia, NH 03247 where the family has established a Scholarship Fund in Dan’s name.
