Ronald S. Hood, 78, of Bedford formerly of North Reading, died March 20 in the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington.
Born in Malden, September 17,1938, the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Murphy) Hood, Mr. Hood was raised in Malden and had lived in North Reading for 30 years prior to moving to Bedford.
Mr. Hood had been an insurance agent for New York Life Insurance Company for many years before retiring.
Ron enjoyed traveling, stamp collecting and photography.
He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his daughter Tara Gurge and her husband Ronald of Franklin. He was the father of the late Bonnie and Andrew Hood.
He is also survived by his brother George Hood of Tamarac, Florida and was the “Grappy” of Daniel, Benjamin and Caroline Gurge.
He is also survived by his former wife Carol E. (Martino) Hood of Woonsocket.
His funeral will be held on Friday, March 24 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin at 9:15 followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church at 10:00.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
