Obituary

Frederick A. "Fred" Greatorex, a 30 year resident of Humarock and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Life Care Center of the South Shore in Scituate. He was 95 years of age.

Fred was born in Boston on February 2, 1922, a son of the late James Greatorex and Rose (Houghton) Greatorex. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Following high school, Fred attended electrical trade school at the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston. Fred started working at the American District Telegraph Company not long before he enlisted into the United States Navy on October 23, 1942 and served his country with honor and courage during WWII. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945 with the rank of Chief Electrician's Mate. Fred later resumed working for the American District Telegraph Company until retiring as a supervisor after 46 years. Fred was a member of the Bunker Hill Council #62 Knights of Columbus and the Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association.

Fred is the beloved husband of the late Anne F. (McGonagle) Greatorex. He is the loving father of Frederick J. Greatorex and his wife Donna of Dedham, Patrick J. Greatorex and his wife Maureen of Stoneham, Anne Marie Garvin and her husband Frank of Peabody, Deborah R. Lyman and her husband Richard of Charlestown, and Cheryl A. McGurty and her husband Thomas of Medford. He is the beloved Pa to Jessica A. (Greatorex) Friel, Lawrence J. Mulchay, Brendan P. Garvin, Shannon McGurty, Molly McGurty, the late Jonathan F. Greatorex, and to his great-granddaughter Kaylee Wagner. He was predeceased by 10 siblings.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Fred's Funeral on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury. His visiting hours will be on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
