Rose L. (Bettencourt) Curran, 90, of New Bedford died Thursday March 9, 2017 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Francis L. Curran.
Born in Acushnet, the daughter of the late Antone J. and Josephine (Marshall) Bettencourt, she lived in New Bedford for many years, as well as Cocoa, Florida from 1984-2006, before returning to New Bedford.
Mrs. Curran was formerly employed as a department manager at Sears in Dartmouth until her retirement.
Rose had been a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Florida and had been a volunteer for Social Security in Florida. She enjoyed playing Bingo.
She is survived by three children, Gary F. Curran of Texas, Carol A. Curran and Debra A. Curran, both of New Bedford; two brothers, Joseph Bettencourt of Fairhaven and Robert Bettencourt of Florida; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Robert Paul Curran and Sharon M. Curran, companion of the late Gilbert Bragdon, and sister of the late Margaret DeTerra, Mildred Pierce, Anthony, John, Jerald, and George Bettencourt.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rockdale Care and Rehabilitation, especially Kerri, Susan, and Brittany, for the excellent care given to Rose.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM.
