Obituary

Margaret M. (Walsh) Barrett “Nanny Marge”, of Quincy formerly of Mission Hill, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2017. She was the daughter of the late James M. and Margaret F. (Foley) Walsh, each of South Boston. She was loving mother to Arthur Barrett and his wife Debra of Manchester, NH, Kenneth Barrett of Westborough, Michael Barrett of Temple, NH, Cris Barrett of Canton, Sheila Winegardner and her husband Joseph of Grand Junction, CO, Andrew Barrett and his partner Gail of Annapolis, MD, and the late John Barrett and his surviving wife Rita of Merrimack, NH; Loving grandmother to Mathew, James, Geoffrey, Timothy, Cory, Megan, Jennifer, John, Alexa, Shaun, Ryan, Drew, and Joseph. Sister of John Walsh of Brewster, Francis Walsh of Wilmington; Catherine Killilea of Canton, Mary Ruhland of Pueblo, CO, Stephen Walsh of Quincy, Robert Walsh of Milton, Jane Happeny of Dedham and the late James Walsh.

Nanny Marge was born in Boston on July 22, 1936 and grew up on Mission Hill in Roxbury. She graduated from Mission Church High School in 1954 and later married and moved to the Wollaston neighborhood in Quincy where she raised her seven children. Marge lived in Colorado for several years before moving back to Quincy. After she retired from the Hanscom Air Force Base she lived at the 1000 Southern Artery housing complex for 18 years. She enjoyed several trips to Ireland, England and Florida. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and children.

Funeral from the P.E. Murray - F.J. Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 2000 Centre St. West Roxbury on Friday, March 17th at 8:45am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in The Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, “Mission Church” at 10am. Relatives & Friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Thursday, March 16th from 3-7pm. Nanny Marge will be buried alongside her parents in the Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
