John H. Marques, Jr., 85, of Westport, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Joan T. (Fontaine) Marques.
Mr. Marques was born in Fall River, son of the late John H. and Francelina (Ferreira) Marques, Sr. and had been a longtime resident of Westport. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He had worked as a master barber for Pinto’s Barber Shop in Newport for 47 years. He was a member of the VFW Ouellette Post 8502 and the American Legion, both of Westport. Mr. Marques was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. He was the past commissioner for the housing authority in Westport and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Isadore Council, Westport.
Survivors along with his wife include his son: Robert J. Marques and his wife Donna of Fall River; his daughter: Michelle A. Boisvert and her husband Michael of Somerset; 2 grandchildren: Jessica (Caron) Costa and her husband Joshua and Justin Caron; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Linda Marie Marques and brother of the late Francelina Couto and Mary Marques.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, March 13, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 9:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-7 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
