Joseph J. Fanning 63, of Jones St. died March 8, 2017. Born in Providence, he was a son of Alyce (Ferruolo) Fanning of Cumberland and the late Joseph Fanning. Joe worked for the Cumberland School Department for thirty years before his retirement. He loved music, whether it was listening to Jazz and the Blues or dancing to Rock. Joe was a social butterfly and could be found at several establishments throughout Cumberland and Providence playing pool or cards or just socializing. Joe also loved spending days at the beach. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and would always find something in common with them.
Besides his mother he is survived by his children, Elliot J. Darling of Woonsocket, his daughter Kali L. Darling of Ashland, MA, three sisters, Jacqueline Greenhalgh and her husband Joseph of Pawtucket, Cindy Fanning and her husband Ed Bieleki of Lincoln and Allison Fanning and her husband Dean Venticinque of Scituate. Joe also had several nieces and nephews, Sharon, Jennifer, Joseph, Jessica, Emmalee, Soleil, and Jared. He was also “Grandpa Joe” to little Dean.
He was predeceased by his brother Gary Fanning and his sister Joanne Sheldon.
Joe and his quick wit and smart remarks will be missed by many.
Funeral will be held Monday at 10:00 AM in the Fournier and Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St Woonsocket, with a service in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Cranston. Visiting Hours are Sunday 2-5 PM.
