Mary E. (Reardon) McCarthy, of Abington, died at home on March 8th after a period of failing health, surrounded by her loving family. She was 98 years old.
Born in Boston on June 23, 1918, she was the daughter of Peter and Catherine (Harrington) Reardon. Beloved wife of the late Francis W. McCarthy. Devoted mother of Daniel P. McCarthy and his wife, Ellen of Whitman and Mary McCarthy of Sagamore Beach. Cherished grandmother of Francis McCarthy and his fiancé, Suzanne of Whitman, Daniel McCarthy of Whitman, Patrick McCarthy and his fiancé, Camille of Abington, and Joseph McCarthy & his loving girlfriend, Erin of Burlington. Treasured great grandmother to Cole & Jace McCarthy. She was predeceased by six brothers, Rev. Joseph Reardon MM, Francis Reardon, Peter Reardon, John Reardon, William Reardon, and James Reardon. She is survived by her sister, Ann Reardon.
She graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School. She was retired from the Town of Abington Public Library. She loved to read and spend time with her family. In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Frank.
Visiting hours will be held at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman on Monday March 13th from 4-8 p.m. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, 270 Elliot St., Newton on Thursday, March 16th at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will follow at Mount Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.
