Walter G. Loveday, Sr., age 85 of Middleboro, formerly of Brockton, died Wednesday March 8, 2017 at his home under the care of hospice. Walter was born and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Gerard X. and Geraldine H. (Carlson) Loveday and had been a resident of Middleboro for the past 34 years.
Walter was a graduate of Brockton High School and served proudly in the Army during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Republic of Korea President Unit Citation. After his military service, Walter returned to work at A&P Supermarkets in Brockton where he remained until his retirement in 1996.
Walter enjoyed time outdoors, especially working in his yard and garden and cherished time spent with his grandchildren. He was very proud of his family and will be remembered as a hard worker.
Walter was the father of Matthew X. Loveday and his wife Virginia of Taunton, Rochelle C. Loveday of Ramseur, NC and the late Walter G. Loveday, Jr. He leaves his grandchildren Cassandra and Alexandria Loveday and Nathan and Ashley Loveday; 6 great grandchildren Anthony, Aaliyah, Aidan, Ariyana, Kaylani and Delaney Loveday; and his siblings James Loveday of Lexington, Alan Loveday of Brockton and Carol Maynard of Hyde Park. He was the brother of the late Gerard Loveday, Geraldine Owen, Joan Mills and Janice Loveday.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton on Monday from 5-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 10am, followed by burial in the Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
