Louis Dupont, Sr., age 81 of Taunton, passed away on March 8, 2017 at the Taunton Nursing Home after a long illness.
He was the beloved husband of Mary (Williams) Dupont. Louis was born in Taunton, son of the late Louis and Gertrude (Xavier) Dupont.
Besides his loving wife Mary of over 60 years, he leaves his four children, Dianne Dupont and her partner, Jane Schmidt of Plano, TX; Doreen DeSousa and her husband Joseph of Taunton; Louis Dupont Jr. and his wife Lynn of North Dighton and Neil Dupont and his wife Sharon of Mashpee. He was the proud “Papa” to his grandchildren, Neil Jr, Kyle, Makenzie, Jillian, Aaron and Kevin. He was also the brother of Anna Medeiros and Kathleen LeBrun of Taunton, and leaves many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Before retirement, Mr. Dupont was employed for over 40 years as an architect with Grossman’s Tech Built Homes and Mann Industries.
He was an active parishioner of the former Immaculate Conception Church, and was involved in the Holy Name Society, the choir and the Parish Council. He was a recipient of the Marian medal in 1989. He was a charter member of the Taunton Minutemen and organized the first Liberty and Union Parade for the city of Taunton.
He enjoyed woodcarving, travel and photography, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. He authored a genealogy book, as well as coordinated many Dupont family reunions.
The family extends special gratitude to the staff of the Taunton Nursing Home for the compassionate and supportive care provided to Louis over the past six years.
Mr. Dupont’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 9 am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Anthony’s Church, School St, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held in the Silva Funeral Home on Monday, March 13th from 4 to 7 pm.
