Obituary

Robert H. "Bobby" Smith, a 12 year resident of Melrose and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life suddenly at his home in Melrose on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. He was 76 years old.

Bobby was born in Boston on November 27, 1940, a son of the late Thomas Smith and Irene (Hughes) Smith. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system. He furthered his education at Wentworth Institute in Boston and received his Certificate in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration. Bobby enlisted into the United States Army on January 15, 1961 and served his country with pride and honor. He was honorably discharged on July 14, 1961 with the rank of Private. Bobby worked as a crane operator for over 15 years at the former Revere Sugar Refinery in Charlestown. He enjoyed traveling to his summer home in New Hampshire where he would spend most of his time on the water and boating. He was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed all of the Boston sports teams.

Bobby is the beloved husband of 57 years to Judith A. "Judy" (Marcella) Smith. He is the devoted father of Darlene Smith, Mark Smith and his wife Lesley, Karen O'Neil and her husband Steven, David Smith and his wife Kelly, Wayne Smith, Judy Smith and her fiancé Andrew Grzelcyk, Shannon Sclafani and her husband Frank and the late Robert T. Smith. He is the loving Papa to 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Irene Mahan, Thomas Smith, William Smith, Claire Smith, Dorothea Jacobs, Maureen Kane, Kathleen Swales, Kevin Smith and the late Brian Smith. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bobby's Funeral Services and burial will be strictly private.
