James R. “Russ” Hayes, age 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2017. Born in Boston, he grew up in Roslindale and graduated from Roslindale High School. Mr. Hayes was a longtime Milton resident and had formerly lived in So. Boston for a number of years. He served in the Army during the Korean War. A retired electrician of the MBTA, he was a late member of Local #103 IBEW and the American Legion Post #114, Milton. An avid antique car enthusiast, he was a member of the Marcom Model A Club. Mr. Hayes was a talented accordionist, enjoyed dancing, and loved Irish music. The beloved husband of the late Marjorie (Lyons) Hayes and father of the late James J. Hayes, he is survived by his loving children; Jean Hayes of Hull, Noreen Earner & her husband Martin of Milton, Patricia Sullivan & her husband John of Milton, Kathleen Murphy of Hanover, Sean Hayes & his wife Roseann of Marshfield, and Carol Hayes of Brooklyn, NY, his son-in-law, Richard Murphy of Whitman, his cherished grandchildren; Maggie & Michael Sullivan, Mikaela & Chloe Murphy, Alexander & Joseph Hayes and Keira & Matty Earner and his dear sisters, Catherine Hayes of Braintree and Patricia Sullivan of West Roxbury. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Church, Milton, Saturday morning, March 11th at 10. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Friday, March 10th from 4 to 8 PM. Burial in Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Local #103 IBEW Brotherhood Fund, 256 Freeport St., Dorchester, MA 02122.
