Joaquim F. Silva, 64, of New London, CT, formerly of New Bedford died Thursday February 16, 2017 at home.
Born in Sao Vincente, Cape Verde, the son of the late Pedro F. and Mary (Gomes) Silva, he lived in New Bedford for many years.
Mr. Silva was formerly employed as a firefighter at the Groton Naval Base before being transferred to Ft. Adams, where he served until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his children, Dominique Silva, Pedro Silva, Joaquim F. Silva, Jr., and Demitra Silva; his siblings, Maria Rosario Soares, Francisco Silva, Silvestre Silva, Maria deJesus Sandel, and Manuel Silva; his grandchildren, Najee Silva, Modesta Silva, Janae Silva, Aiyana Silva, Breuna Silva, Destiny Silva, Joaquim F. Silva III, and Alex Parilla; and nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Modesta Silva, and brother of the late Maria daLuz Delgado, Maria Auxiliadora Rodrigues, and Maria deFatima Silva.
His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 9 AM at the First Church of the Nazarene, 764 Hathaway Rd., New Bedford. A private family burial will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
