Obituary

Jill P. (Peterson) West 53, of Bellingham, died peacefully, with her beloved husband at her side Monday March 6, 2017 at the UMASS Memorial Medical Center-University Campus, following a year long battle with a rare cancer. She was the wife of James D. “Jim” West, with whom she shared 29 years of marriage.

Born January 29, 1964 in Poughkeepsie, New York, the daughter of the late William O. and Jean (Woodin) Peterson, she was a former resident of New York before moving to Massachusetts in 1986.

Jill was raised and educated in Poughkeepsie and continued her education at Marist College, where she graduated Cum Laude with degrees in computer science and math.

Jill was born to teach. It was her passion. She was a former math teacher at North Attleboro High School and was a longtime Bellingham educator, teaching first at Bellingham South Elementary and was a math teacher at Bellingham Middle School and High School.

Jill enjoyed crafting, knitting, gardening, and dabbled in custom chocolates and cakes for many years. She was a member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church in Cumberland RI, and was an ordained deacon.

In addition to her husband she is survived by 3 sons, Cody G. West of Woonsocket RI, David H. West and his fiancé Ryann of Harrington DE, and Zachary J. West, USN of San Diego, California, 3 brothers, Eric Peterson of Michigan, Ken Peterson of Florida and David Peterson of Michigan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Celebration of Life Service Saturday March 11th at 10AM in the Calvin Presbyterian Church 126 Angell Road Cumberland, RI 02864.

Calling hours are Friday March 10th, at the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. from 4-8PM.

Her interment will be held privately.
