Gerald J. ‘Jerry’ Raymond, 85, of Salem, NH and formerly of Salem, MA, passed away, at home, with his family by his side on Saturday, March 4, 2017, following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Joan E. (Goddu) Raymond with whom he had shared 46 years of marriage.
Born in Keegan, Maine and raised in the greater Van Buren area, he was the son of the late Alphie and Rose (Rioux) Raymond. He and his family moved to Salem, MA in the mid 1950’s. Jerry was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served stateside with the Army in the 806 Engineering Battalion. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Campanelli Construction Co. and later for DiBiase Construction Co. Jerry loved carpentry and in his spare time enjoyed all aspects of building and residential home improvement projects, to include the building of his own home.
Jerry was foremost a family man and home person. He enjoyed his time playing family card games, doing puzzles and family bowling excursions. He was an avid bowler and was a great supporter of Salem Little League Baseball. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by his daughter Janet J. O’Connor and her husband, James of Salem, NH, his son, Robert Gerald Raymond and his wife Stephanie of Danville, NH, his brother Gilbert Raymond of Hudson, FL, and sister, Theresa C. Lajoie of Salem. He also leaves, four grandchildren, Angelina, Anabella & Ava Raymond and Landon O’Connor, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Evelyn Raymond, Marie Voisine, Lucille Lezenski & Imelda Dion and brothers, Lucien ‘Bill’ & Joseph ‘Pete’ Raymond.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem, MA on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 9:00 AM, to be followed by his Funeral Mass in St. James Church 156 Federal St., Salem, MA at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem, MA.
