Obituary

Anthony Silveira, age 92, of Taunton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 5, 2017 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston.

He was the beloved husband of the late Hazel F. (Freitas) Silveira.

Anthony was born in Taunton, son of the late Antone and Palmira (Cordeiro) Silveira.

Before retirement in 1981, Mr. Silveira was employed with Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant as a lineman & General Foreman for over 35 years. He attended Taunton High School, and graduated Franklin Technical Institute with a certification in electrical wiring. Anthony served his country with honor and pride in the Pacific theater with the 738th AAA Battalion, Battery C during World War II. He was a life long member of Elks Lodge 150, Portuguese American Civic Club, VFW David Adams Post 611 and American Legion Post 103.

He is survived by his children, Ronald W. Silveira and wife Petey of Longwood, FL, David A. Silveira and wife Debbie of Somerset, Paul J. Silveira and wife Michelle of Taunton, Toni J. Salter and husband Ashley of Stuttgart, Germany, and Carol A. LaCourse and husband Anthony of East Taunton, grandfather of 20, and great-grandfather of 19.

He was the brother of Edmund Silveira and Ramona Lynch of Taunton and the late Mary Patenaude.

Visiting hours will be held in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) in Taunton on Wednesday, March 8 th from 4 to 7 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 372 Middleboro Ave. in East Taunton.
Interment with military honors will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery.
