Hannah M. (Healey) Bruce, 88, of New Bedford died Friday March 3, 2017 at the Oaks Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Capt. Felix Bruce; they had been married for 52 years until his passing in August 2000.
Born in Argentia, Newfoundland, the daughter of the late Richard and Martha (O'Reilly) Healey, she lived in New Bedford since 1947.
She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church for the past 50 years.
Hannah was a loving caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who cherished her entire family. She was the matriarch of her family, who organized every holiday gathering and family celebration. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by six children, Felix Bruce, Jr. and his wife Susan and Richard D. Bruce and his wife Rosemary, all of Fairhaven, Sandra Hogan and Michael R. Bruce and his wife Roberta, all of New Bedford, Dennis S. Bruce and his fiancée Marie Villella of Fairhaven, and Dawn A. O'Hara and her fiancé J. David Mullen of Dartmouth; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother-in-law of the late Dennis J. Hogan, Jr. and Loretta Bruce. She was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Her family would like to thank the staff of the Oaks for the loving care given to Hannah during her stay there.
Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday March 8, 2017 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM.
