Obituary

AGAWAM – Ronald R. “Ron” Gonthier, 59, of Agawam, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on June 5, 1957, the beloved son of the late Leopold and Lucille O. (Lamontagne) Gonthier. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from Putnam Vocational High School in Springfield and had lived in Springfield for many years before moving to Agawam in 1993. He was employed as a machinist at Curtis Universal Joints in Springfield. Ron was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting his family in Canada. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and could often be found with his friends in Agawam at the “Shed”. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving son, Timothy R. Gonthier who was Called Home on September 21, 2004. He leaves his loving son, Michael P. Gonthier of Feeding Hills; his former wife, Kathleen M. Gonthier of Feeding Hills; his two dear sisters, Diane J. Guillemette of Agawam and Joanne R. Long and her husband, Brian, of Feeding Hills; his 11 cherished nephews and nieces, Marc Guillemette and his wife, Sadie, Melanie Goodman and her husband, Josh, Matthew Guillemette, Sarah and Connor Long, Anthony, Lindsey, Gina and Carly Albano, Luke Halbrooks and Kayla Brandes; his six cherished grand nephews and grand nieces, Kingston, Mireille, Addison, Julian, Amelia and Evelyn; and his many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and extended members of the Gonthier and Albano families. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (the funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. In memory of Ron’s love of reading, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his name to a local library of the donor’s choice.
