Edward Furtado, Sr., 92, of Rehoboth, passed away on Tuesday. He was the husband of the late Irene Ida (DeSouza) Furtado. Born in Taunton, son of the late Manuel and Frances (Teixeira) Furtado. Edward was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a Purple Heart recipient. For 25 years he owned and operated the A&W Root Beer Stand in County Square, Attleboro. An avid hunter, he belonged to many local gun clubs, raised beagles for many years and was a loyal Red Sox fan. He was the father of Edward Furtado Jr. of Attleboro, Kenneth Furtado and his wife Irene of Seekonk and Richard Furtado of Salem, Oregon; father-in-law of the late Patricia Furtado; brother of the late Charlie Furtado and Ruth Dansreau; grandfather of Sherri Furtado, Kenneth Furtado, Jr., Jesse Furtado, Amy D'Amico, Jamie Furtado, Christy Illic, Danny Furtado and the late Adam Furtado. He also leaves 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00AM from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, with Mass to follow in St. Anthony Church, School St., at 10:00AM. Interment with Military Honors in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours Monday from 5-8pm.
