John W. McGlynn Sr., a longtime Stoughton resident, passed away at his home on Wednesday August 31, 2005. He was 79 years old. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice M. (McStowe) McGlynn.
Born March 13, 1926, in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late John H. and Margaret E. (Henderson) McGlynn. He attended Boston Public Schools.
Mr. McGlynn served as a Fireman with the United States Army during World War II and retired with the rank of PFC. He was the proud recipient of the American Theatre World War II Victory Medal.
After his military service concluded, he returned to Stoughton and was employed by the McStowe Engineering Company in West Bridgewater, as a Boilermaker for his working career, retiring in 1990.
He was an avid fan of and volunteer for the Stoughton Little League, the Stoughton Babe Ruth League, the Stoughton Men’s Softball League and was very active with the Brockton Invitational Baseball Tournament.
His hobbies included bowling at Westgate Lanes in Brockton and traveling.
He is survived by his son John W. McGlynn Jr. of Taunton, his grandson John W. McGlynn III of Stoughton with whom he cherished very much, several nieces, nephews, many friends and his best friend Pepe’.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday September 7, 2005 at 7:45 A.M. from the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of his soul at 9:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton Street, Rt. 27 Stoughton.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
Visiting hours are on Tuesday September 6, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.
