William A. “Bud” Hurt, age 81, of Fitzgerald, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA following a brief illness.
At his request, a private graveside service will held for his immediate family only. The family appreciates your understanding.
Bud was born in Fitzgerald on January 13, 1936, the son of the late Stanley and Lillian Hurt. He was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and the Massey School of Business. He began his career at Georgia Highway Express in Atlanta and eventually transferred to CSX Railroad in Fitzgerald where he was employed for 27 years. He retired in 1997 and spent the next 17 years enjoying his family, his pets, politics and Georgia Football. Bud was active in several organizations including the Lions Club where he served as President and was a 40 year member of Pine Level Lodge #353 F.&A.M. where he served as Worshipful Master in 1982 and as Secretary for many years. He was a Scottish Rite Mason, having proudly earned the 33 degree, and also was a member of Hasan Shrine in Albany...but his most notable accomplishment was his role as husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed more than it is possible to convey.
Bud is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Loraine Bowen Hurt and his children, Debra Hurt Moorman (Larry), Kathy Hurt Massee (Cleve), William "Billy" Hurt, and Faye Hurt Turney (Chuck). He was extremely proud of his grandchildren, Mallory Massee, Jake Hurt, Jason Hendley, Alex Moorman, Ashley Hurt and Rebecca Massee.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue-Gray Community Hospice, P.O. Box 1447, Fitzgerald, GA 31750.
