Irene (LaBonte) Tilton, 78, of Salem, died unexpectedly in her home, Friday, February 24, 2017. Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Evelyn (LeBlanc) LaBonte.
Irene attended Salem Schools and in 1953 married her late husband Richard Armstrong. She devoted the following years to raising her young family. Once her children advanced in school, she began working part time for Lena’s Sub Shop in Danvers while living in Danvers. She was currently employed by Market Basket in Danvers. A resident of Danvers, she moved back to Salem several years ago.
Irene loved animals, especially cats and dogs. She also enjoyed baking particularly for family special occasions and holidays. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by four sons, Richard Armstrong and his wife Renee of Lynn, Wayne Armstrong and his wife Joan of Peabody, Philip Armstrong and his wife Cherie of Las Vegas, NV, & Greg L. Armstrong and his wife Marie of Florida, two sisters, Mary D. Steffen of Sudbury and Lorraine Torres of Danvers. She also leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands Richard Armstrong and Albert Tilton, her daughter, Evelyn IIliopoulos and brothers, Henry, Richard, Raymond and Albert LaBonte.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visiting hours on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / `1-A] Salem, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Her funeral service will be in the funeral home on Thursday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in North Beverly Cemetery.
